Diary Notes

16th October 2007...

We today met up with Mike Garbutt and Jackie Smallwood from Wirral Council's Parks and Countryside Department. The topics we discussed were our newly formed Friends Group, Funding options, play equipment availability and suppliers.

We confirmed to Mike and Jackie that we had formed a Commitee and have a Membershp list of 70 members and counting.

This now means that we are now officially the 34th "Friends Group" in Wirral and that we will be able to put forward suggestions and ideas through Local Area Forum Meetings of which we will now be a part of.

Mike has supplied information to us with reference to what funding grants there are available for Friends Groups and we are now in the process of contacting identifying the various options.

Mike and Jackie said that we were now one of the four parks that are in line for Funding from The Lottery Big Play Fund application and that the results of that application will be known in December 2007. As soon as we hear about the application, we will announce the decision on this website.

With reference to play equipment, Jackie said that she would like the local children to have some input into what they would like. This however would be after we have actually got any funding in place and again we will let everyone know.............................

19th October 2007

We today met up with the Paul Maguire, the Area Manager for Kompan Ltd. Kompan are suppliers of play equipment for Parks and other Leisure facilities. Kompan, have recently supplied some equipment at The Grange Park (Off Black Horse Hill) in West Kirby.

Paul spent some considerable time measuring up and taking photos of the Park and its equipment and fences in order that he can put together a full refurbishment design plan, showing what we could hope to accommodate together with full costings. Once we have been given the design plan and details, we can then put forward applications to the other fundraising schemes that are out there.

The idea being that we could refurbish in stages as and when we manage to get funding..........

22nd October 2007

Today we reserved St Andrews Church Hall for our first FUND RAISING EVENT. We will be having a Christmas Attic Sale on Saturday 8th December 2007 from 10am - 12 noon.

Following a meeting with Roger Clalvert and Jackie Smallwood of Parks & Leisure at Wirral Councils Hamilton Street offices in Birkenhead. It was confirmed that Wirral Parks were going to put up three thousand pounds to add to the six thousand five hundred pounds that we have raised and that would be used to install a new slide & combination unit with new safety floor surface. It is hoped that this will be in place before the summer starts. This is only stage 1 of our plans and we aim to continue raising funds to further improve the play facilities.
